That's Catholic guilt for you. Sadly they mean well but should really stay focused on teaching faith and stay out of politics. As a life long practicing catholic I know when to tune out this type of message.

I totally agree with you, and that is why it is important that there is a complete separation between religion and government.

another fine commentary. I wonder if the essay you are going to reveal in your next post is "Requiem For Man" from Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal?

I was baptized Catholic but abandoned religion long ago.One of the many problems with Catholicism is that it can't avoid hypocracy by it's very nature. When the church encourages profit for the common good in the latest encyclical, the message is for the profit-makers to give to the church. The church uses the guilt that it and society put upon businessmen to extort donations. While the church decries profit, it's very existence depends on profit! And isn't the Catholic Church the original "global organization" - by force if not by conviction - and for a profit.(or "prophet") So how can it criticize globalization?

I enjoyed very much your article. I myself am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) and I have found Atlast Shrugged and the ideas of Ayn Rand to be extremely beneficial to myself. I find that the more I study my own religion the more that I am completely convinced that the application of self-interest is the only way to rationally live in this world. I also have found that this coincides well with my religion, that is one that promotes hard work, education, and by all means, making money. The church devotes large amounts of donated funds to several privately owned universities (BYU, BYUidaho, BYU hawaii, LDS Business College) that focus on preparing individuals to work for their living. You are so right in that any forms of charity or "welfare" should be on a completely private basis and be completely taken out of government. Any program that is based on theft (taxes, taking one persons money by force and giving it to another) is bound to fail. Milton Friedman said it the best by describing "spending someone else's money on someone else is the most inefficent way to spend". I can't believe that the vatican came out with such an absurd position. Guess it just goes to show why I'm not Cahtolic I suppose.

Anyways, great article and keep up the good work with fighting to keep our freedoms and liberties alive!

Good post. You may want to correct this: "The Pope has about as much credibility dispensing advice on how to improve our economic lives AS he does on how to improve our sex lives."

Are you ignorant or just evil? Anyway you seem to be extremely stupid. Craving and desire is the well of all evil and suffering.Capitalism is marching the world in to the abyss.
The are countless other ways to go. Why not consider some of them? No, imagination?!!!
