I have never heard such nonsense in my life. The so-called conservatives have no problem taking the constitution and walking all over it. It is not a privilege to have health care it is a moral imperative. What is more important ? Insurance company profits or the lives of sick Americans. The question is ,what exactly does a insurance company do?? They do not treat one patient, they do not do any research. They are the classic "middleman" they take 30% from their customers for the privilege of being their customer. So their stockholders make money. Some pro-life .

His name just cries out for that, doesn't it? I had planned to title a piece I'm writing "The Obamanable Snow Job" but thought that might be over the top so it now has a straighter one.

In any case, loved the title, the op-ed and the effort you and all the writers are putting in to make this a free country once more.

Ayn Rand Objectivism is the idiotic drivel of the unintelligent and morally vapid mind. Pure laissez-faire capitalism is probably the most outdated economic concept of the last 100 years. Her ideas of let the weak die off are almost indistinguishable from the ideas of Anton Drexler and his notorious gang of idiots. It's thinly veiled as Libertarianism, the movement that denies the function and stability of society and moves humanity toward the animal. Take what you want when you want it and sefishly deny all who's needs may be greater than your own in your ultimate self gratification of the now. Comepletely ignore the good of the many for the good of the one as long as that one is you.

All he wants to do is make sure your health insurance company doesn't drop you when you need them the most and to cover those that have no insurance at all. That bastard! I mean really, that's a lot of sour grapes over nothing. Who would want your freedom? You're not free, health insurance companies own you, lock, stock and barrel. Things cost money, sorry but they do. Your aurgument is to blame the uninsured for what is out of their control. People work hard every day and health insurance is too expensive for them so it's........their fault? What kind of heartless, souless bastard would say that? The framers said nothing about health care, it was the 18th Century!

I've belived this for sometime now, that people don't have a "right" to healthcare as people see it today, but have never been able to articulate it untill reading this blog. Thank you for the moral support, now I have the defense I need to back up my argument when people say I only belive this since my job provides good health care to me. Thank you.

I appreciate--truly--the speed at which you so eloquently responded to the president's address to congress. Further, I appreciate that you did not neglect to confront the fact that socialized medicine--although "marketed as otherwise"--is an immoral abomination that sacrifices the best to the worst.

Mr. Epstein,

I agree with you that the battle is moral. I, too, wrote an article in response to Obama's speech focusing on the notion that individual's needs does not give them the right to sacrifice the political rights of their fellow citizens. It's good to see a writer that can seamlessly integrate politics and economics as you have done here.

Best Regards,
Daniel Casper
