I just wanted to raise your awareness to an article that I learned about today that ARC would probably want to vocally oppose:
http://tiny.cc/jpx1V

This article basically proposes that humans are irrational and need 'nudges' from leaders to make better choices.

I blogged a rebuttal on my blog:
http://bit.ly/10GlFb

And linked to it via the comments section to that article.
It's horrific.

Mr. Journo,

What is the objective response to the Laura Ling and Euna Lee enslavement? Regardless of their ideological mistakes, namely, working for Al Gore, I think the U.S. needs to threaten, and perhaps use any neccesary military force to secure their safe release. What say you?

Hello Elan,

I enjoyed this article, but I wonder about your parenthetical remark that the appeasement of Iran started with Bush. Is that really when the appeasement of Iran began? How about when President Bill Clinton apologized to President Khatami--for the wrong reasons--and later said that Bush should not take military action against Iran? http://www.larouchepub.com/other/interviews/2005/3206clinton_rose.html What about the Iran-Contra affair when we sold arms to Iran during Reagan's presidency? The last president who arguably did not appease Iran but instead overthrew the government that nationalized our oil there is Eisenhower.

Regards,
Daniel

annual receptions that typically feature hot dogs, red-white-and-blue bunting and some perfunctory remarks about the founding fathers.
Perfunctory means Done routinely and with little interest or care: The operator answered the phone with a perfunctory greeting.
Acting with indifference; showing little interest or care.
This is just what we don't need.

Elan,

Saw your piece on Iran. I wonder if you've seen this?:

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1082625.html

Apparently Israel held aerial drills over *Gibraltar*. If they can operate that far away using in-flight refueling and the like, it seems they wouldn't need to fly over Iraqi airpsace to attack Iran. They could fly by way of the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf--just flying around Saudi Arabia. Before I had thought an Israeli strike would be impossible without overt U.S. approval, but now I don't. Practically speaking, it seems U.S. support might still be necessary, but this would give the U.S. plausible deniability.

It's a no-win situation for Israel. America's complacency increases the threat to Israel and then the U.S. has the audacity to expect Israel to ask for permission before defending itself! Let's hope the Israelis take action on Iran, because nobody else will.
