They hate themselves, so they hate humanity and think the earth would be better off if humans had never come on the scene. Sadly, this plays into the hands of people who could care less about the earth. Look at what demographics have a birth rate well below 2.1, the rate of replacement, and what demographics have birth rates in excess of 5.0. You will find that latter groups include Palestinians, who continue to dump raw sewage from Gaza, and many from the third world. Just look at the environmental degregation that is done by Mexicans crossing the border in Arizona or New Mexico.
