Don
Nice article. But you forget, the average American is too stupid to make informed decisions and must be protected from greedy predators like Apple, or Goldman or ..... I know I am preaching to the choir here, but I think you are wasting your time and miss the point of Ayn's Atlas Shrugged. We did not miss the point. We now live in a remote area of the southwest US. We are retired and not dependant on government aid or payments. We have downsized our standard of living and are pursuing what makes US happy. We don't rail against the government and they don't even know we are here. Don't get me wrong, I respect what you are trying to do and support you in spirit. But you will fail until the government goes too far and average Americans rises up and over throw the bastards. I doubt it will be in my wife and my lifetimes, so we are doing what makes US happy. I hope for your sake that what you are doing truly makes you happy.
A friend in the desert.

Is the FCC doing this because Google whined to them? Is the FCC's power stemming from lobbyists and citizen ignorance and misguided morality? objectivity is rare in the media but it can be found.
I wanted to know the facts and I found ARI's website.

Ha! I laughed out loud when I read that. Let me respond on behalf of Apple: It's none of your damn business! Brilliant, simply brilliant.

Answers to the FCC, in the same order as the questions:

- this information would reveal confidential trade data
- rejected parties are not disclosed due to contractual obligations and federal privacy legislation
- in accordance with federal privacy legislation, we do not disclose the name of rejected developers; in addition, this confidentiality protects the developers' professional reputation
- Apple follows its decision protocol on these matters; a confidential and copyright process
- Due to privacy legislation, we can not disclose this information
- Contractual obligations prohibit the disclosure of contractual obligations
- AT&T manages its own affairs
- AT&T's role is to earn a profit for its shareholders
- Contractual obligations prohibit the disclosure of contractual obligations
- This question is better answered by the developers at AT&T and the founders of VoiP technology
- AT&T is in better position to provide information about its 3G network
- This question has been asked and answered earlier
- This information is a confidential trade secret
- Confidential trade secrets are not posted anywhere
- The standard is whatever Apple decides will earn us the largest possible profit for its shareholders
- Decision protocols are confidential
- This information would harm the submitting developers' ability to serve their own existing customers
- Does not fit our profit model

Unfortunately, these answers, although well within Apple's rights, in fact as noted in your blog Apple could rightfully (from a proper moral perspective) decline to answer altogether, would only make Apple an even greater "target" of the FCC, wasting time and money and distracting Apple from critical research and development. So, for practical reasons and regulations, Apple has no choice. It's an example of the government cutting down successful companies simply for being successful.

And when the government causes them to fail, the government will be lead the charge in chastizing the executives for poor management!

But as the same principle, I spent around 200 bucks to buy that phone and spending 80 bucks monthly for their services(here I mean AT&T and iphone both).
So it is my phone. Whatever I want to do with it, I must be allowed. It is my right to use iphone in whatever way I can.It is the duty of government to protect my right.
iphone is no doubt a revolution. But that doesn't mean they have right to control how individual is using his/her phone.

Would it not be great if Apple and ATT responded to the FCC inquiry with "It's none of your business"? So sad that it is not likely to happen. Would it be great if a businessman stood up and told government to mind its own(properly limited)business. Or if that businessman asked "By what right do you mettle in the affairs of free citizens"? Unfortunately there are no Reardons around to openly refuse self immolation.
