Many of us have no need for brand new vehicles, we drive used ones. Destroying serviceable cars and trucks will just drive up the price for used vehicles. The energy savings is negligible, if there is any. How much energy does it take to build a truck? I drive a 1990 Suburban, and I recycle 3000 pounds of steel every time I turn the key.
