Cities have become outright criminals. I live in the inner city of Toronto on lot 14' x 77'. My taxes are $6,500 per year! BUT - I still have to pay for water and hydro from the government monopolies, $3.50 per bag of garbage from another government monopoly; there is no snow removal by policy because the street is too narrow, no leaf collection for the same reason. So what am I paying for? AND - I can't remove the tree on my lot despite it's danger of falling limbs because it's diseased; and I can't exterminate the raccoons that swarm my garbage (by law put in a city-provided green bin that is NOT raccoon-proof despite the assertions of the city) because raccoons are "protected". PLUS the city claims an "easement" on my property and shows up to dig a trench in my yard to access some conduit for something without any warning or regard for the noise and the mess. Essentially, the City of Toronto STEALS $6,500 from me every year, provides no services and then dictates how I can use my own property! It was never acceptable, but it is now so extremely immoral and outrageous, yet the city continue to pillage at will - in fact it pillage with the full support of most citizens. Well said!
