Kennedy deserved none of the sweeping adulation that he received. But this particular honor deserves the isolated treatment you have given it. Freedom? Hardly. My deceased wife, Pam, and I used to be outraged at the ludicrous up-to-spec accommodations that were irrelevant to anyone in a wheel chair. This included doors that couldn't be opened, grab-bars that were too far away to be reached from a chair and were nowhere near the toilet. Thus, by law, the incentive to put in truly helpful accommodations and then advertise for disabled customers as a competitive advantage was lost. And the perpetrators of this fraud -- the government -- got away with no chance of bringing suite.

In any case, an excellent piece on this topic.

Finally, a decent examination of Senator Kennedy aside from the leftwing bullshit articles I’ve seen from all the corporate news channels. I am tired of the news constantly kissing ass with Obama and all the other lefties rather than doing their jobs by reporting on and investigating the people in question. None of the news channels have bothered to do an objective view on exactly what ramifications such socialist policies have on individuals and their liberties. As such I greatly appreciate a breath of fresh air, along with an honest look at Senator Kennedy and the real products of his polices. However, I think some things that need more clarification and greater help in the story is the proper citing of where the facts, presented in the story, are coming from and how they are being used. What would lend further credibility is more actual statistics from outside agencies that monitor the government. What could help even more would be the addition of government statistics and reports, from reporting panels, which outline more of the points you’re making. Furthermore, greater explanation, clarification and maybe even a graphic timeline of the continual expansion of government healthcare (and government healthcare measures) would further help to illuminate the situation and drive the point home even further that this is not the right course for us. Doing so would show the spiraling money these programs are consuming from the American people over the course of the last several decades and how it is affecting the ability of American’s to pay for healthcare in the first place.
One last good point to add would be how soon such systems might begin deteriorating and collapsing under the weight of their own bureaucracy. An objective look at what effects the bureaucracy has on families and the individual would also be of great importance in better understanding the situation. I think another article should also be published outlining the absurdity of the existing system, its consequences for individuals and families alike and the insanity of having Congress (the ones responsible for the existing mess) further fucking things up by getting involved even more and destroying what’s left of our healthcare system. By such time it would also be vital to introduce a story about the arguments in favor of government run healthcare and those against it with a moral, economic, political, and socially objective look at such proposals followed by their historical outcomes detailed with an explanation of why such results will occur. Specifically this article should be geared towards those unfamiliar with Objectivist principles and must make sense to your everyday reader with lots of facts and links they can follow to do their own research.
Yes, I realize such an in-depth article would take a great of time but I think it is vital because so few understand what is really at stake and just what a communist type healthcare system would mean. Such an in-depth and objective look at the current situation is also vital in slowing and reversing the tide against such healthcare measures particularly by looking at what enormous damage has already been done by government intervention and then proposing ideas to solve the problem. A vital critique that a vast audience can understand is paramount right now more than ever in undermining and stopping the socialist’s efforts because most people have not seen firsthand just how those scenarios play out because we are not Europeans and have individual values not collective values.

Great article. I was hoping to see a reference about Mary Jo Kopechne and how her life was deemed not important enough to be saved by this drunk. However, I understand that you are keeping it to his role in healthcare in relation to the Presidential Medal of Freedom. What can we expect from Obama? He does not understand freedom as we do.

Dear Mr. Bowden,

I think that you have missed a very important point regarding the 'progress' of Western culture, pointed out quite well by Mr. George Orwell, in his '1984,' and elsewhere.

freedom IS slavery

Surely, for the radically progressive Obama, no one could be more deserving of the Presidential Medal of Freedom than Sen. Kennedy.

Every citizen should be dismayed at the willful and deliberate corruption of our language.

Thanks for the article, and your time
