I hate to inform the head of the Fed, but to get to the root of the problem. Mr Bernanke, you ARE the problem. The Fed should NOT EVEN EXIST. Since when do the bankers think they OWN THE TAXPAYERS? The entire boom and bust cycle of business in the 20th century was caused by the 16th amendment and the creation of the Fed(thanks Woodrow Wilson and William Jennings Bryant, 2 communists before Vladmir Lenin). Get rid of the Fed , get rid of the 16th amendment, while we are at it get rid of the 17th amendment also. Fannie mae and Freddie Mac-the cause of the problem, not the cure. Same with medicare-since when should I have to pay for anyones health care other than my own?
Even Reagan didnt go far enough. Everything since Wilson and Teddy Roosevelt has been an attempt at destroying capitalism. The problem with the world isnt free enterprise-its a LACK OF FREE ENTERPRISE.

I disagree. There is no doubt that low inerest rates were a causal factor in the recession, but the primary cause? Maybe, but I'm not convinced.

I wish to address your claim that the Fed poured gas and lit matches. You will recall warning me in a previous email against using supposed analogies. Regardless, I'd like to follow this one through. In artificially deflating interest rates, then following this up with lax regulation, the Fed not so much started the fire directly. Rather, they gave the gas and matches to financial institutions that couldn't be trusted with them.

Hello ARC,

I'm surprised there has been no mention of "climategate" on Voices of Reason. When are you going to write about it? I would love to see ARC write an op-ed written about climategate, and, hopefully, it will be printed in nationwide newspapers.

Thank you,
Joseph Kellard

Remember it was the Federal Reserve helped the Clinton administration coaerse banks into riskier loans with a piece of bad research that was later debunked. The Federal Reserve, intentionally or otherwise, worked in collusion with the Janet Reno Attorney Generals office, to sue (intimidate) the banks into joining the Fannie Mae, HUD, and FHA housing scam. This New York Times article is chilling to read in hindsight.

All of the redline suits, by the Attorney Generals offices, were magically dropped, when banks began to comply with issuing the riskier loans the administration and Federal Reserve desired. They doubled down on it in 1999 with Fannie, Freddie, and HUD. Again from the New York Times, and just as chilling to read in hindsight.

The Federal Reserve was there in the beginning of it, right alongside the House & Senate Finance Committees and the Whitehouse administrations.
