[...] “A strong message to Black Street” — VOICES for REASON "Think about what this headline implies. The conviction of one particular financier is regarded as a message to all financiers. That is outrageous." Thought I would make a note to those that think I only disagree with blog, I agree with this statement.
Alex, thanks for linking Mr. Peikoff's essay to your comments. I loved it! It was obviously written a few years ago, but man is it relevant! My comment: he notes how business must deal in the rational and logical. If only that were true! More and more, I find myslef, as a businessman, dealing with very irrational and non-objective people. It's very frustrating and such a waste of time. In my industry (independent insurance agent in Ontario, Canada), it's not enough that government regulates us unreasonably, but our own association has become nothing more than a lobby group for leftist ideals. Because of the ridiculous position of this association (for example, it is lobbying gov't to create a law preventing insurance companies from buying independent insurance agents therefore reducing the number of possible buyers for my agency and therefore my agency's value and the asset I worked so long and so hard to create!), I decided to cancel my membership. Only then did I learn that if I cancel, my staff will no longer have the right to their professional designations that they worked so hard to achieve (hours of classroom work, more hours of study and four 3-hour examinations), and which give them a competitive edge in the marketplace - the reason I hired them! So, even though I detest the political position of the association, I have to remain a member because I value my employees too much to deny them their professional designations and ability for advancement in our industry! It's unreasonalble and outrageous. Not to mention I have to give money to support a cause I'm diametrically opposed to.

P.s. - please spread the word: gov't healthcare in Canada is an UNMITIGATED DISASTER - don't let the anybody tell U.S. citizens otherwise!

Thanks,
Michael
